Surrounded by his loving family, Dick Hines passed from this life to Eternal Life on Tuesday, March 6, at Season’s Hospice House in Rochester.

Dick was born on March 31, 1943, to Kay and Carlton Hines. He was a life-long resident of Rochester, graduating from Catholic schools and Rochester Junior College. He obtained his plumber and steam-fitter licenses and was employed by Himec Plumbing and Heating for 25 years, spending many of those years at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1985 he began an amazing career at Mayo Clinic as construction manager in Facilities Project Services. He retired in 2010 and continued to work at Assisi Heights as Director of Facilities. From an early age, Dick formed a deep attachment with the Sisters of St. Francis and he considered this final responsibility as one of his greatest endeavors.

Dick was not a man who could say, “That’s good enough.” He had a passion for accuracy and perfection, which he so comfortably could bring together through teamwork and cooperation. He did this through a keen sense of humor that will be missed so deeply. He understood how to create an environment where laughter became contagious and people of diverse backgrounds and expertise could work together seamlessly. He had many extraordinary gifts, but one of the greatest was his passion for people.  If you met Dick Hines, you likely have at least one story that you will not forget. Nothing made him more proud than working for Mayo Clinic as a construction manger.

Dick loved spending time with friends and family at the lake in Hayward, WI where he made many friends.  He enjoyed discovering new places and spending time with nature.  He loved fishing with his grandchildren and teasing them about the big one that got away.  Family was always his number one priority.  A special memory he cherished was his trips with Mary to Italy and the Holy Land.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Tom and his wife Garu of Arlington, VA; his stepchildren, Mike Jensen and his wife Sara, Renee Redalen and her husband Tom, and Patrick Jensen. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and purpose. They are Marissa Recker, Megan and Maya Redalen, Emma, Isaiah and Ashley Jensen and Maia Hines. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Annis and her husband Brian of Palm Harbor, Fl.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 9 from 5:00-7:00pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1119 11 1/2 Street SE in Rochester and one hour prior to the Mass at Assisi Heights Convent on Saturday. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00am at Assisi Heights Convent, 1001 14th Street NW in Rochester.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, 500 11th Avenue NE.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sisters of St. Francis, 1001 14th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901 and Season’s Hospice House, 5650 Weatherhill Road SW, Rochester, MN 55902.
