Hannah Isabel Schroeder was born at 11:29 pm on November 28, 2000 in Crookston, Minnesota.  She unexpectantly passed from this life on her 20th birthday, at 10:29 pm, November 28, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Hannah lived in Crookston for the first ten years of her life.  She underwent open heart surgery at seven months of age at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  Early in her story, she was diagnosed with Turner Syndrome, and later with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.  As a young child, Hannah had a feeding tube installed, and underwent hand and intestinal malrotation surgeries.  Hannah moved to Ladysmith, Wisconsin, with her family in September of 2006.  It was there in Ladysmith that she began to attend school for physical, speech, and occupational therapies.  Hannah also experienced spinal fusion surgery, kidney stone surgeries, a colostomy/ileostomy, and various minor procedures & tests too numerous to list.  Due to increasing medical complications, more frequent trips to Mayo Clinic, and to be closer to her medical care, Hannah moved to Rochester with her family in September of 2016.

Despite Hannah’s difficulties, she was an extraordinarily joyful person.  When she encountered pet or farm animals, they seemed to understand that Hannah was special, and they were very gentle with her.  Hannah’s joy and laughter were infectious and gave perspective to the people around her.  Hannah loved music of all kinds, Disney movies, and her stuffed animals (Fentanyl the dog, Olanzapine aka “Piggy,” and Propofol the penguin).  She would often go to bed giggling, and would laugh at jokes that no one else would “get.”  Hannah loved riding in the van through the car wash, and riding the bus to school.  She enjoyed interactions with her teachers & fellow students, often bringing home notes from school, having disrupted class with her incessant giggling.  Hannah’s nicknames included “Sweet Pea,” “Funny Bunny,” “Hannah-Banana,” “Goobie,” and “Princess Puke.”

Hannah may have had the capacity to see angels.  When asked, “What do you see?” Hannah would gaze at up at the ceiling with a big and wondrous smile.

Hannah is survived by her parents, Donn & Suzanne Schroeder of Rochester, and three siblings: Jesse, 26, of Chicago, IL; Tatum, 24, and Rachel, 22 also of Rochester.  She touched the lives of countless people, some of whom she never met, just because of who she was.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 in The River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Please be courteous of COVID restrictions. A memorial service will be held in the post-COVID world.
