Richard Earl “Chris” Christopherson, age 87, of Rochester, MN died Sunday, March 31, 2019 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Richard was born August 4, 1931, Regent, ND, the son of Kenneth and Clara (Harth) Christopherson. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1950. He honorably served in the US Army Medical Corps. He was stationed in Germany for a year and a half. When he returned home, he worked for Mayo Clinic as an X-ray Technician for 43 years. He was united in marriage to Venetia “Sis” Lampman on August 4, 1951 in Rochester. He was very active in the Rochester community, coaching youth hockey, baseball, and football for many years. He was also First President of the Youth Hockey Association in Rochester. During those years, he was instrumental in raising funds for the building of Graham Arena. Chris and Sis lived in their dream home on Lake Zumbro for 38 years, until returning to Rochester. He was very involved with the Senior Center, and won the Mayor’s Award in 2009 for services to the elderly. Chris and Sis were voted representatives of Senior Volunteerism in Olmsted County at the Minnesota State Fair.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Richard is survived by his wife, Venetia “Sis” of Rochester; children: Scott Christopherson of Rochester, and Dan (Laurie) Christopherson of Oronoco, MN; grandchildren: Jamie (Matthew) Lambert of Rochester, Sumer (Dustin) Gullickson of Rochester; great-grandchildren: Sydney Christopherson, Maddox Christopherson, Holland Christopherson, and Leland Gullickson; brother, Robert (Margaret) Christopherson of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN, with Rev. Nicklas Mezacapa officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.
Memorials are preferred to Rochester Youth Hockey.
