Matthew Joseph Klaus, 32, of Rochester, passed away on March 30, 2019 following a long battle with addiction.
Matthew was born on June 8, 1986 in Middletown, NY to John and Denise (Brown) Klaus. He attended Rochester schools, graduating from Century High School in 2004. Following high school, he obtained his Associates Degree in Finance from RCTC. After many years in the restaurant industry, Matthew began working for Rochester City Lines, a job that made him excited about his future. He was especially proud of his son, Grahmm. The two enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and backpacking together. Matthew had a special bond with his late grandfather, with whom he shared a passion for woodworking. His affectionate smile and charm will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his son, Grahmm of Wabasha, MN; his parents, John and Denise of Oronoco, MN; his siblings, Will (Kate) Klaus of Rochester, MN, Brian (Shannon) Klaus of Coon Rapids, MN, Hannah (Dustin) Abplanalp of Waukesha, WI; his niece, Annika Klaus; and nephews, Dylan Klaus, Leo and Sam Abplanalp; his maternal grandmother, Rita Brown of Live Oak, FL; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.
The Memorial Mass for Matthew will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge or the Cronin Home, both of Rochester.
