Jary Jay Larson- Rochester
Jary Larson, 82 of Rochester MN, died Peacefully, from complications of diabetes, with his family surrounding him, Friday May 21, 2021 at Seasons Hospice.
Jary was a Rochester native, born January 14, 1939, to Joseph and Leona “Oddie” (Knechtges) Larson. He grew up in south Rochester on his parent’s hobby farm where his family raised horses and dogs. He attended Golden Hill grade school, Rochester Junior High School and Rochester High School graduating in 1957. From there he attended the University of Minnesota School of Liberal arts and graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1964. It was at the “U” that Jary met the love of his life Dorothea (Thea) Ziegler. They were married in October of 1964 and have been married for 56 years. Jary joined his father in dental practice in July of 1964, at the 100 First Ave. Bldg. in downtown Rochester. He and his father practiced dentistry for many years there, until he built a new dental building on the corner of Assisi Heights Road and 16th Ave. NW.
He was a member of the Zumbro Valley Dental Society, the Southeastern District Dental Society, a member of the Minnesota Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He also was a member of the Zumbro Valley Study Club, the Minnesota Prosthodontists Society, a member of the Minnesota Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Jary pursued further education in orthodontics using the straight wire technique and added orthodontics to his practice. He was member of the Academy of General Dentistry and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry.
He retired from dentistry after 33 years of practice and enjoyed his retirement spending his winters in Sarasota, Florida and summers in Rochester, Minnesota.
Jary had a great sense of humor and smiled and laughed to the end. As a kid Jary enjoyed water skiing and time on the water, he loved camping and traveling with his family, especially his many trips to Disney World. He enjoyed photography, loved movies and joked his goal was to “Finish Netflix”. Jary especially adored his 5 grandchildren who all called him “Gunka”. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his Wife, Thea (Ziegler) Larson of Rochester; daughter Susie (Brian) Nelson of Louisville, Colorado, their 2 children Leo and Annie; son Jim (Jackie) Larson and their 3 children, Henry, Maddie and Charlie, of Orono, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and brother.
