Robert Glenn “Bob” Gill, 97, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at his home in Rochester, with his wife at his side.

Born December 24, 1921 in Elmira Township near St. Charles, Minnesota, Bob was the son of Edward and Hazel (Ferguson) Gill. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1939. Bob served in the United States Naval Reserves from 1942 to 1945, fighting in World War II on the Pacific Front as an in-flight radioman. On May 25, 1946, Bob married Beverly Henry of Dover, Minnesota. They lived in Rochester for over 73 years, raising three sons and establishing with his wife, the businesses, Robert Gill Realtor- Builder, founded in 1963, and Northern Lights & Furnishings, founded in 1977. Bob enjoyed working until the time of his death.

Bob was an active member in the Rochester community throughout his lifetime, serving as a founding member and president of the Rochester Area Builders Association and as a member and president for both the Rochester Board of Realtors and the Rochester Cemetery Association. Bob also served on the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission, the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Rochester Downtown Advisory Board.

Bob was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Rochester American Legion, the Rochester Area Shrine Club, the Rochester Lodge of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Minnesota, and the Valley of Rochester Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

In 2013, Bob received the Rochester Quarterbacks Club Ben Sternberg Award for his contributions to the Rochester area sports community, including being a founder member of the Rochester Youth Baseball Association in 1957 and as a leader and Director of the Rochester American Legion Baseball program for 35 years, from 1968 to 2003.

Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly Gill; his three sons, Gregory (Jill) of Rochester, Kirk (Jennie Wilson) of Rochester, and Lincoln of Whitefish, Montana; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sharon Bishop of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Darrell Gill, his sisters Phyllis Klee and Beverly Todd, and an infant daughter.

His funeral will be held at 11 A.M on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Christ United Methodist Church, Rochester, preceded by a visitation an hour before the service and followed by a burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion of Rochester. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or Oakwood Cemetery.
