John Merrill Whited, age 66, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 24th, 2019, at Seasons Hospice House, after battling brain cancer.
John was born to Milford and Helen (Kvall) Whited in Rochester, Minnesota on March 1st, 1953. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1971. John started his career in the plumbing and steam fitting trades. He then worked for many years as a General Foreman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Rochester.
John married Cindy, the love of his life, on February 14th, 1987. They were happily married for 32 years, until his death parted them for now. John and Cindy enjoyed traveling across the U.S. together “glamping”, working on projects together, going to movies and concerts, and spending time with family and friends.
He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, practical jokes, and living life to the fullest. John truly cared for his loved ones and could be counted on to help those in times of need. This extended to helping others in the community, via years of volunteer work at Channel One Food Bank and Sisters Crossing Gift Shop at Saint Mary’s Hospital.
John is survived by his wife, Cindy of Rochester, Minnesota; son, Dane (Jordan) Schad; granddaughter, Reagan Schad of Prior Lake, Minnesota; son, Brandon Whited and daughter, Brittney Whited, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers David (Felix) Whited and Donald (Linda) Whited, both of Rochester, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Helen Whited, as well as his in-laws, Richard and Mavis Langerud.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, in Rochester, Minnesota, with Pastor Lisa Kipp officiating.Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Lastly, the family is very grateful to the staff of Seasons Hospice House, for the excellent care they provided to John and for all of the ways that they supported his family members in his final days.
