Mary Elizabeth (Roeder) Kuisle, of Stewartville, passed away on July 10, 2019 at the age of 92.
Mary was the eldest daughter of Cyril and Frankie (Carroll) Roeder and was born on August 3, 1926 on the family farm. She grew up in the Rochester-Simpson area and graduated from Rochester High School in 1944. She first met her husband, Laurence Kuisle, at Sunday masses and later married him at St Bridget’s Catholic Church on August 16, 1947. Laurence passed away in 1982 following a farming accident. Mary remained in the Rochester area and continued to attend mass at St. Bridget’s Church her entire life until her death.
Mary had so much wisdom that she passed down to her children and the generations that followed. She would not want a list of accomplishments listed but her legacy. Foremost, she engrained in her family a deep faith in God and a certainty that prayers were a necessity of life. It was what bound the family together and grounded them. She saw her family as her trophy and her greatest achievement. She beamed with pride as she talked about each of them, never to let anyone feel that they were anything but her favorite. Mary was full of life, independent, spirited, playful, genuine, and loving. She was a fierce defender of public education and served on the Stewartville School Board. She loved reading and keeping up on everything in the community, government, and world affairs. She loved a good debate.
Mary’s legacy of faith and family lives on through her nine remaining children, Tom (Linda) Kuisle, Wabasha, Jim (Marlys) Kuisle, Stewartville, Eileen (Gary) Hartog, Mount Horeb, WI, Bill (Lisa Benken) Kuisle; family farm, Dennis (Peggy) Kuisle, Rochester, Sally (Gary) Detlefsen, Wyoming, MN, John (Carol) Kuisle, Owatonna, Mark (Paula) Kuisle, Rochester, and Catherine (Sara) Kuisle Rochester; 27 grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Schwab, Josh (Nicole), Peter, Markus, Nate (Jessica), Jerrod, Jake, Tony (Katie), Melissa (Patrick) Zant, Alex (Katie), Maria (Ben) Berg, Nick (Rachel) Hartog, Bridget (Mike) Garner, Colleen Hartog, Isaac, Jenny, Laura (Travis) Hawley, Laurence, Lucas, Shannon (Mike Haviland) Detlefsen, Megan Detlefsen, Kayla (Dallas) Williams, Mike (Laura), Christine (Adam Devitt), Hannah, Abigail; step-grandchild, Tanner Vite; and 17 great-grandchildren with 3 babies on the way. Mary’s brother Jack Roeder (wife, Mary Roeder) and sister-in-law, Barb Roeder, are also remaining family.
Those who journeyed ahead of Mary to heaven: her husband, Laurence; her children, Richard and Frances; grandson, Patrick; as well as her brothers, Dave and Frank (Peg). May her soul now join their souls and the other angels in heaven.

The funeral Mass for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Simpson, MN with Fr. Kevin Connolly officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Hall in Simpson, MN and one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Bridget’s Church or Saint Bridget’s Adoption Ministry.
