Margaret Rose Sexton of Rochester, MN, formerly of Byron, died Monday, July 8, 2019 at her residence.
Margaret was born December 5, 1937 in New Prague, MN to Raymond and Ella (Weides) Mahowald. She graduated from New Prague High School in 1955, went on to Minnesota School of Business and then found her first employment in downtown Minneapolis. Margaret married John Sexton of Waseca, MN at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, MN on April 16, 1959. In 1960 they moved to Rochester and in 1964 they moved to Byron to raise their family. During this time, Margaret and her friend, Kay, started the Village Press newspaper. Following that, she worked at Byron High School. In their retirement, Margaret and John returned to Rochester in 2014.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Sexton; their two sons, Michael (Maria Lopez) Sexton of Douglas, AZ, and Patrick Sexton of Mankato, MN; their two daughters, Jane (Ted) Kramer of Hayfield, MN and Amy Brown of Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren and their spouses, Katelyn (Jacob) Siemers, Kody (Kelly) Kramer, Brady Kramer, Taylor Sexton, Mason Sexton and Ian Brown; and three great-grandchildren, Grayden and Ally Mae Siemers, and Kamden Kramer.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ella Mahowald; brothers, Lee and Allan Mahowald; and sisters, Rita (Dale) Swenson, and Jane (Kelly) Kallal.
Margaret loved Minnesota sports, especially the Vikings and Gophers, reading, knitting, coloring, Farkle, her little red VW bug, and all of her friends, old and new; and she hated mayonnaise. Margaret was especially proud of and loved her family. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A memorial Service for Margaret will be at 10:00 am on Friday, July 12th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, followed by a luncheon in the River Park Chapel. A private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery later that afternoon.
