Joseph “Joe” Stellpflug, age 83, of Rochester, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 19, 2019 at Cottagewood Memory Care.
Joe was born on March 19, 1936 in Rochester to Stephen and Frances (Oberle) Stellpflug. He grew up on the family farm in Marion Township and following graduation from Rochester High School worked locally for a time before enlisting in the US Army. Joe served during the Korean Conflict and when he returned home, joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharged. In 1964, he married Dorothy Van Allen. Joe then began his career as a Lineman for People’s Cooperative Power Company in Rochester and retired after over 46 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Joe enjoyed traveling, was a member of the Rochester Eagles Club, and liked spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Rochester; his children, Andrea “Andi” (Scott) Drake of Lino Lakes, MN, Butch (Mary) Erath of Rochester, Don Erath of St. Charles, Jim (Wendy) Stellpflug of White Bear Lake, MN, Jodi (Brian) Ross of Rochester; siblings, Paul (Eleanor) Stellpflug of Rochester, Margaret (Vern) Walton of Pea Ridge, AR, John (Jan) Stellpflug of Sleepy Eye, MN, and Leo (Jolene) Stellpflug of Paris, TX; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Debbie, Terri, and Toni; sons, Bob and Mike; and siblings, Mary, Regina, and Leonard.
The funeral service for Joe will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Rev. James Berning officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 in the River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. A reception will follow at the Rochester Eagles Club.
