Doris Celia DeYoung, 97, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2019.
Doris was born on December 18, 1921 in Clontarf, MN to Eugene and Elva (Bolinger) Chevalier. She was the fourth of eight children and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Benson High School in 1940 and farmed in the Danvers area for many years. In 1963, she moved to Rochester with her son, Timothy, and daughter, Maria. There she worked for many years in the pharmacy at Rochester Methodist Hospital, retiring in 1983.
On May 3, 1975, she married Dallas DeYoung and they blended their family of six children. After their retirements, they moved to Apache Junction, Arizona and enjoyed every opportunity to spend with their friends and family. Some of their favorite activities included going on cruises, attending Polka festivals, teaching her grandchildren to play card games, and traveling extensively with many dear friends. They returned to the Rochester area in 2006 to be nearer to family.
Doris was always very social and had an infectious personality that drew people to her. Her sass and wit endeared her to many.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Maria (Tom) Himmer; stepchildren, Pam DeYoung, Tom (Laurie) DeYoung, Gary DeYoung, and JoAnn (Joe) Schutz; grandchildren, Nicole, Corey, Justine, Neal, and Carter; and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Gladys Matthieson, and Judy (Bill) Ashenbach; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas; her son, Timothy; and siblings, Lula, Donald, Roy, Vera, and Alice.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11: 00 a.m. on Friday, May 3rd in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home lead by the Reverend Cory Moss, Heartland Hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator.
