John Andrew Koop Sr., 84, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2019 at St. Marys Hospital.
John was born on December 10, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Severin and Helen (Sehl) Koop. He grew up in Richmond, MN. He graduated from St. Thomas Academy High School in 1953. He later graduated from St. Thomas College in St. Paul, MN. John served in the US Army for two years. On September 12, 1959, he married Janet “Jen” Jenneman in Salem, SD. The couple lived in St. Paul for a time before moving to Kansas in 1963. They have lived in Rochester since 1968. John worked locally as an insurance adjuster. John and Jen volunteered many hours at various local places, including Pax Christi Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jen of Rochester; his children, Beth (Dan) Faflak of Henderson, Nevada, John Andrew (Marcie) Koop Jr. of Anchorage, AK, Amy (Paul) Wallin of Arden Hills, MN, David Koop of Brooklyn Park, MN; his siblings, Peg Wacloff of Sun Lakes, AZ, Mary (Bernie) Schaak of Tower, MN; and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
The Funeral Mass for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Pax Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Will Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, MN.
