John Philip Plansky, 64, of Rochester, died on March 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

John was born in Omro, WI on October 5, 1954 to Kathryn and Roy Plansky. He attended Omro High School. In 1977, John graduated from UW-Stout, Menomonie, WI with a degree in Industrial Technology and began a 40-year career at IBM in Rochester where he made lifelong friends. John retired from IBM in July 2017.

In 1992, John met his wife, Jane Lindsey, while both were attending Mass at Pax Christi Church, Rochester. They were together for 26 years and were married in August 2018. In his younger days, John successfully completed three marathons and was a fitness enthusiast his entire life; even chemotherapy treatments could not deter him from doing what he could at the gym. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, old cars, and especially spending time with family.

John is survived by his wife and best friend, Jane Lindsey; sisters, Jeanne (Richard) Crone of Madison, WI, Mary (Dean) Glicksman of Monument, CO, Joan (Tim) Brown of Madison, WI, and Kathy (Greg) O’Connor of Sherrard, IL; and nine special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Mary Sue (Mike) Morris of Luck, WI, John Lindsey of Menomonie, WI, Kate Henggeler (Timm Bailey) of East Troy, WI, David (Maria) Lindsey of Minneapolis, MN, Paul (Stephanie) Lindsey of Washburn, WI, and Richard Lindsey of Spring Lake Park, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to thank John’s oncologist, Dr. Brian Costello, and the entire staff at Mayo Clinic along with the staff at Rochester West Health Services and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice House, Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, or the American Cancer Society.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist with Rev. Gerald Mahon officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral home and one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Omro Cemetery in Wisconsin at a later date.
