Lavonne Marie Lawler, 86, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018.
LaVonne (Bonnie) was born on December 2nd, 1931 in Rochester to John and Esther Ryan. She attended Rochester High School, and following graduation, was employed at Mayo Clinic in the Pathology Lab where she worked for many years.
She married Francis Lawler on August 1st, 1964 at St. Francis Church here in Rochester. She was a dedicated homemaker, as family was most important to her. Together, they had two children and she was a devoted mother.
Bonnie was an avid gardener with a green thumb. She grew beautiful hanging baskets of impatiens and petunias that were admired by all. She was an excellent cook, and was known for her legendary apple pie. In her later years, she traveled extensively with her husband and friends, appreciating all the world had to offer. Additional interests included playing bridge, crocheting, reading, and thrift shopping.
She was dedicated to her Catholic faith and a lifelong member of Resurrection Catholic Church. She enjoyed sharing her strong faith with her friends. She was also an active volunteer, who gave back to the community providing years of service to organizations she was passionate about including MADD, Meals on Wheels, and the Birthright Foundation.
She will be greatly missed by her son John Lawler (Lori) of Galveston, Texas; her daughter Kathleen Tiede of Rochester, MN; and all of her grandchildren. Mom lived a full and wonderful life and shared her joy of living with those around her. As we age, we realize we are indivisible from our parents. We carry them in all aspects of our life, our shared memories, and in our hearts. Mom will always live within us.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Francis Lawler, her parents, three brothers (Jaque, Paul and David) and her sister Arlene.
Bonnie’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests reaching out to others and performing a random act of kindness in Bonnie’s honor today. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities.
The family expresses gratitude to hospice staff and all employees who work in senior living centers. A special recognition to Meadow Lakes Senior Living Center, Willow and Waters, and the St. Croix Hospice staff. Their compassion and patience represent a Devine love for all.
