Erland J. Boelter died July 25, 2018 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Erland Johnnie Boelter was born on July 1, 1920 and grew up in the Salem-Rockdell area. He served four years in the United States Army Field Artillery during World War II. He was in combat in the Pacific Theater, Okinawa, and Saipan. Erland married his one true love, Katherine D. Braun of Rochester on May 10, 1947 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rochester. In 1947, Erland and Kate purchased their farm, where Erland lived and worked for 71 years of his life.

Mr. Boelter was most proud of his family. He and Katherine shared 55 years of marriage and their devotion to one another was an inspiration to those around them. Erland was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and he will live forever in their hearts.

Erland was a farmer and livestock dealer north of Rochester. He was a longtime member of the Eagles, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Pax Christi Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.

He is survived by his five children, Christine (Peter) Galuska of Rochester, Elaine (James) Babcock of Santa Rosa, California, Thomas (Shirl) Boelter of Chatfield, Marilyn (Marvin) Koppen of Maplewood, and Robert (Rebecca) Boelter of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Ladsten of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and three sisters.

We miss you, Dad. You were strict when you needed to be, loving and caring at all times, and always there when we needed you. You were the best. We love you.

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s or the charity of donor’s choice.
