Stella M. Richter, 108, passed away on March 8, 2018 at Madonna Towers skilled nursing care, Rochester, Minnesota.
Stella was born on March 6, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York to Peter and Elizabeth Adamowicz. Stella was an identical twin with Dorothy Malin and they were inseparable through the many years. There were seven children in the family.
When she was seven years old, her family moved by train to Racine, Wisconsin to be closer to other family members and work opportunities.
In the early 1930s, Stella was a telephone operator for the Wisconsin Telephone Company.
She married Bernard Richter on August 17, 1935 until his death on April 24, 1969.
In the 1960s, Stella went to vocational school in Racine and took up bookkeeping. She then worked at Haban Manufacturing Company and the Racine Journal Times newspaper.
While living in Racine she was a member of Christian Mothers at St. John Nepomuk parish, the Racine Yacht Club and Shoop ladies golf league where she won many trophies especially for putting. She was also a Pink Lady at St. Marys hospital in Racine for many years.
Stella was an accomplished seamstress making stylish clothes for her daughter and herself. She also enjoyed embroidery, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, winning awards at the Olmsted County fair. Many of her items are cherished and used by her family.
Stella enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies and Polish dishes. She was proud of her Polish heritage and could speak and read the language. She also enjoyed traveling, bowling and reading.
Stella is survived by daughter, Carole (Donald) Ott; grandchildren, Jennifer Ott, Michael Ott and Heather (Ryan) Kelly; great-grandchildren, Alexa and Owen Kelly, Garrett, Ella and Jayden Ott.
The family sincerely appreciates and thanks Madonna Towers for the care Stella received.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15th in the Madonna Towers Main Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Madonna Towers or Rochester Catholic Schools.
