Elizabeth “Lee” Ann Schulze

Elizabeth “Lee” Schulze, 93 of Rochester, formerly Spring Valley area died on Saturday, February 24 at Whitewater Health Systems in St. Charles, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.

Elizabeth was born October 29, 1924 in Center Township, PA to John and Ann Osipchak. After high school she enrolled in a government sponsored nurse training program requiring two years of military service. After completing her nurse’s training she entered the Air Force as a 2 Lt. in Fort Lewis, Washington. While at Fort Lewis, she met and married Victor H. Schulze, also in the service. They were married 68 years.

After they completed their service tours they moved to Kerrville, TX where Lee worked at a veteran’s hospital and Victor taught school.

Two years later, they moved to Missouri where they bought and operated a dairy farm. While there Lee served as a school nurse.

Later the couple moved to Rochester where Vic worked at Libby’s and Lee was employed at Mayo Clinic, working in radiology at the Curie building for many years.

After retiring, they bought a small hobby farm near Spring Valley, MN. They lived there for 20 years before moving to Stewartville.

Lee is survived by her husband, Victor of Rochester; two daughters, Lynn (Mark) Schwartz of St. Louis Park, MN and Rebecca (Will) Bly of Rollingstone, MN; two sisters, Irene Kiraly and Mary Chick; and one brother, Ed Ospichak, all of Youngstown, OH; grandchildren, Alison (Brian Weeks) Schwartz, Amy Schwartz both of Washington, DC, Zach (Jeanie) Otten of Rochester, Jason Otten of St. Louis, MO, Derrick (Trish) Bly of Rochester, and Carrie (Bruce) Bach of Ely, MN; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Special thanks and gratitude to staff at the Whitewater Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Elizabeth during her four year stay.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer Association for research.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 10 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
