The funeral for Durwood will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 8, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester with Rev. Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Durwood, 85, formerly of Rochester, died Thursday (January 4, 2018) at Rochester Health Services East.
Durwood was born on August 13, 1932, in Blooming Prairie, MN. He was the son of Arnold and Myrtle Iverson. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1953 to 1957. His last two years, he was stationed in England and France. On October 13, 1957 he married Joanne Stern at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had two children together, Diane and Duane. As a family, they enjoyed many years of camping and traveling. Durwood was employed at Hormel in Austin, MN. After his retirement in 1994, he and Joanne traveled to Europe and Alaska and enjoyed many cruises. Later on they sold their home in Austin, and traveled for five years full-time in their motor home before buying a home in Rochester.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Diane (Loran) of Rochester; granddaughter, Tanya Hoppe of Rochester, grandson, Brandon Hoppe of Jacksonville, NC, granddaughter, Taylor Jo Iverson of Garland, TX, granddaughter, Kayla Holleman of Menomonie, WI, and grandson, Jamie (Cari) of Cresco, IA; and two great-grandsons, Braxten and Brayden Hoppe of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Verna Mae Elton, and son, Duane.
The immediate family would like to thank family and friends for the thoughts and prayers, as well as the staff at Rochester Health Services and Rochester Hospice.
