Myron William Wentzel, 82, of Rochester passed away November 1, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Myron “Mike” William Wentzel, son of Herman and Edith (Wegener) Wentzel, was born September 2, 1935 in Wadena, MN. He attended grade school in Ottertail County and Immanuel Lutheran grade school in rural Courtland, MN and graduated from Nicollet High School in 1953. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN in 1955 where he studied radio, television, and industrial electronics. He served in the US Army for two years. Mike began a 36 year career with IBM in 1955, first in St. Paul before moving to Rochester in 1960. On September 13, 1969, he married Virginia Simons in Algona, IA. He retired from IBM in 1991.
He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, outdoor activities, watching the Vikings and spending time with his family.
Myron is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; two daughters, Krista (Aaron) Johnson of Minneapolis, and Beth Kubista of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joseph and Abigail Kubista and Elsa Johnson; three sisters, Marlene (Leo) VonOhlen of North Mankato, Carolyn (Rodney) Volk of Eden Prairie, and Eunice (Robert) Timm of Chattanooga, TN; one brother, Rev. Wayne (Lorna) Wentzel of Grand Blanc, MI; three sister-in-laws, Jean Simons of Whittemore, IA, Anita Degen of Algona, IA, and Patricia (Don) Ritter of Olympia, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, November 10 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be held at a later date at Minnesota State Cemetery - Preston.
