William L. Fischer, age 89, died peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys Hospital.
He was born to Aloysius and Ida (Falk) Fischer on February 10, 1934. After graduating from Lourdes High School, he spent four years as a Sea Bee in the U.S. Navy. Bill married the bride of his dreams, Ruth A. Miller, on April 8, 1961. He worked for IBM for 37 years, before retiring in 1992. He loved socializing and shooting pool at the Eagles, spending time hunting, fishing, boating, working outside, and watching the wildlife from his deck.
Bill is survived by his three children, Ann (Dan) French, Beth Fischer, and David (Jade) Fischer; grandchildren, Jennifer French, Nicolet (Drew) Hedrick, and Charles (Stephanie) French; great grandchildren, Hallie (Tyler) Peregrin, Riley, Ben, Ruth, Owen and Will Hedrick and great, great granddaughters, Frances and Adeline. Bill is also survived by his two sisters and a brother. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth; his parents; seven siblings and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1114 3rd St. SE, Rochester, MN 55904. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2024 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th St. SE, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church.
