Bruce Arthur Hoffmann, 64, a beloved member of the Rochester community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in palliative care at Mayo Clinic, Methodist campus, surrounded by his family. Bruce’s journey through life was one filled with resilience, warmth, and a zest for the simple joys that brought him happiness.
Bruce was born on July 23, 1959 in Rochester to Helmuth and Patricia (Schrecongost) Hoffmann. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School. Bruce lived in a Bear Creek Services group home where he created enduring connections and shared his life with what became his cherished Rochester family and friends. Despite the challenges he faced, Bruce’s spirit remained unbroken, and his ability to forge meaningful relationships was a testament to his generous and compassionate nature.
Maintaining strong family ties, Bruce was dedicated to nurturing connections through regular phone calls and visits. His commitment to those he loved was unwavering, and his family always held a special place in his heart, which was validated through his strong hugs, known as “Bruce hugs” whenever embraced with his presence.
Professionally, Bruce made his mark working at ABC (Ability Building Center) and various other businesses around the Rochester area. His dedication and strong work ethic earned him respect in the workplace, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Bruce was an avid member of “Friends of Dr.Bob and Bill W.” and celebrated nearly 25 years of sobriety. His journey towards recovery showcased his resilience and determination, inspiring those around him. Bruce’s steadfast faith played a significant role in guiding him through life’s challenges, providing him with strength and comfort.
Bruce had a deep passion for professional and college football, with an unwavering loyalty to the Minnesota Vikings. His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious, creating countless shared moments of joy with fellow fans.
A connoisseur of good food, his excitement for meals at Denny’s, and love for classic rock music, Bruce found happiness in the simple yet profound pleasures of life. His engaging conversations and love for socializing made him a well-known figure in the communities he touched. Bruce’s charismatic presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In remembering Bruce, let us lean on his compassion, determination, and strong-willed spirit. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and warmth he shared with family and friends.
Bruce is survived by his brothers, Jeff Hoffmann and his spouse, Wendy of Sun Prairie, WI; David Hoffmann and his spouse, Troy Dunn of Massillon, OH; Tamara Hoffmann D’Aoust and her spouse, Louis D’Aoust of Memphis, TN; nieces, Chelsea (Marcus) Adams and Ashley (Chris) Sluis; great-nieces, Harper, Paisley, and Londyn Adams and great nephew, Henry Sluis. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Patricia.
