John Lynn Fischer
March 25, 1938 – November 30, 2023
John, a lifelong resident of Rochester, MN, peacefully passed away on November 30, 2023, at the age of 85. Following his graduation from Lourdes High School in 1957, John began his career with Home Gas Company before dedicating 34 years to Rochester Parks and Recreation. After retirement, he and Joann enjoyed spending time at their place on Lake Pepin, in Lake City, MN.
Departing this world, John leaves behind a legacy defined by hard work, love of family, and passion for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and golfing. As a master carpenter he built houses, decks, and devoted the past 17 years to crafting and selling thousands of birdhouses at the annual 100-Mile Sale in Lake City. John willingly shared his talents whenever friends or family needed help.
John is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Joann (Jensen) Fischer, three children – Jim (JoAnne) Fischer, Jodie (Bill) Lawson, Joe (Shari) Fischer, five grandchildren- Steven, Abbie, TJ, Jenna, Jessica, three great-grandchildren -Henry, Amelia, Emma, and four siblings – Sharon, Sandy, Rick, Spark.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Dolly Fischer, and five siblings – Tom, Jack, Chuck, Joe, Sheila.
Visitation will be from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Macken Funeral Home (1105 12 St. SE, Rochester, MN). Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Macken Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Rochester, MN. There will be a luncheon at the Rochester Eagles Club (917 15th Ave SE, Rochester, MN) following the burial.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Seasons Hospice.
