Joan Gertrude (Grabko) Brown, 88, of Rochester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 27, 2021 at St. Marys Hospital.
She was born on February 16, 1933, to John and Gertrude (Adams) Grabko. She graduated from Lourdes High School in 1951, where she participated in Glee Club, choir, was a band majorette, and was also honored to be a homecoming attendant.
On August 6, 1955, she married Kenneth Charles Brown at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rochester, MN. They were married for 65 years.
Joan had a terrific sense of humor and always had a joke or two to tell when you visited her or spoke with her on the phone.
Her biggest source of happiness was her family, whom she loved spending time with and who all loved her dearly.
Joan is survived by her children, Jackie (Mike) Smutka, Charles (Patti) Brown, Jill (Ron) Carlson, and Jean (Dennis) Boysen; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Jean (John) Liegl and sister, Kathleen (Robert) Lushanko; and many nieces and nephews. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-great-grandchild in November.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; sons, Brandon and Paul; brothers; Richard and Robert; and grandson, Cody.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Church of The Resurrection with Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester, MN.
