Larry Gene Viker, 75 of Ryans Bay on Lake Zumbro, Zumbro Falls, MN passed away at home with family and close friends by his side, on May 31, 2021.
Larry was born on November 27th, 1945 to Norman and Jean Viker at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. He graduated from Byron High School in 1967 and started working at Foster Electric in Rochester, MN where he spent his career retiring after 48 years. Larry proudly served in the Minnesota National Guard for nine years. Larry married Patricia Anne Ryan on May 22, 1976 at the Congregational Church in Rochester. The couple lived in Rochester before moving to Ryans Bay where they lived their lifetime together. Patricia passed on October 22, 2020.
Larry was an avid hunter, fisherman and was a skilled woodworker. He was known for his Hosta gardens which were admired by many who passed his home on the lake. He established the iconic “Boys Club” that was a local gathering spot for his many friends and family. Many a night was enjoyed there with his Lake family. Larry was a great historian for the lake and the person to go to for the local fishing report and the status of the ice. He was the first person to head out on the lake in the winter to check out the thickness of the ice. We all relied on him to know when the ice was safe.
Larry is survived by his brother Roger Viker, Patricia’a sibling: Mike (Patty) Ryan, Jim (Gaylene) Ryan, Larry Johnson (Linda deceased), Dan (Margret) Ryan, Tom (Jill) Ryan, and Larry’s half siblings, Debra (Gary) Helberg, Eugene Viker, Darwin (Tekla) Viker. He was loved and will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, and Lake family. Larry is preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, step mother and half brother.
A celebration of life for Larry and Patricia will be held August 14th, 2021 at Uncle John’s Bar and Grill.
A special thank you to Mayo Hospice and all of Larry’s Ryans Bay family for their support and care of Larry.
