John Emil Volz, 78, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on April 3rd, 2021, at Rochester East Care Center.
John Emil Volz was born on July 5, 1942, in Janesville, MN to Eugene and Alice (Traxler) Volz. He graduated from Janesville High School and attended the University of Minnesota, playing football with future Vikings Carl Eller and Milt Sunde. He eventually transferred to Mankato State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. In 1968, he married Jeanne Karen Seger, and several years later, the couple moved to Chatfield, MN. John taught History at Chosen Valley High School for over 20 years, and during that time, achieved a Master’s Degree. He retired early from teaching due to his multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
John was a huge sports fan, and loved watching the Vikings on Sundays, and watching Twins games with his wife Jeanne. They were married for over 50 years. John loved watching his son Tim play football games, and being a teacher, would get to school early and park his car right in front of the goal post, ensuring the best seat in the house. He equally loved his after-school routine with his other son Ed. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his two sons, Tim of Rochester, and Edward of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Kendra and Emma; brothers Jim and Joe; and sister Bette. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanne, and brother Jean.
The Memorial Service for John will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, May 21, 2021 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.
