Richard Hinz – Oronoco
Richard Hinz – 80 – of Oronoco MN, died Saturday, October 24, 2020.
Richard was born November 6,1939 in Fairmount, MN to Charles and Hazel Hinz. He graduated from Central High School in Austin, MN in 1957. On January 13, 1962, he married Ann Marie Ziemann at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin, MN. Together they had two children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
In 1957 Richard enlisted in the US Navy where he graduated from the Naval Air Traffic Control School and was stationed at US Naval Air Station Floyd Bennett, Brooklyn, New York until his honorable discharge on November 21st 1961. He was then hired by the Federal Aviation Administration, graduating from the FAA Air Traffic Control Academy and served in Cedar Rapids Iowa and Omaha Nebraska until his transfer to Alaska in 1965. Richard served in Kotzebue, Annette Island, and Anchorage, AK. He also obtained his pilot’s license, and graduated from the University of Alaska, Anchorage with a degree in Aviation Science. In 1976, He transferred to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport working in both the control tower and approach control. In 1993 he transferred to the Rochester International Airport where he was the tower manager until his retirement in January 1999. Richard completed his career in aviation with Northwest Airlines, where he was a Manager of Air Traffic Control Operations for two years.
Richard is survived by his loving wife; children, Jeffrey Scott (Barbara) Hinz of Grand Meadow, MN, Jill Annette Hinz of Oronoco, MN, three grandchildren, Erik Hinz, Ryan Hinz, Kylie (Nathan) Klaus, one great-grandchild, Caspian Maxwell Klaus, siblings; Roger of Hot Springs Village, AR, Kathy Schatz of Atlanta, GA, and many nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Ann Hinz, and one brother, Robert Hinz.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN with Pastor Jeff Niederstadt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church
Memorials are preferred to any charity of donor’s choice.
