Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Majerus

The funeral for Bernard Majerus will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 22 at St. Pius Catholic Church with Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Mr. Majerus, 79, of Rochester, died Sunday, December 18 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester of congestive heart failure. Bernie was born February 18, 1937 in St. Paul, MN.

Bernard was lovingly raised by his adopted family, the Majerus’ and Steichens. He spent his early life in Adams, Minn. He moved to Rochester, MN graduated from Lourdes High School in 1955. He worked for IBM as a Metallurgical Engineer and then retired in 1992. He married Maureen Hanson May 18, 1957 in Rochester. She died on July 30, 1997. Bernie then married Sheryl Hoppe on September 29, 2000 in Rochester.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl, his children; Cathy (Lynn) Gobin of Rochester, Sue (Steve) Soderman of Boynton Beach, FL, Bill (Mindy) Majerus of Kasson, Terri (Bob) Margotta of Rochester, and Dave (Ann) Majerus of Blaine, step-children; Angie (Michael) Schauer of Spencer, IA, Nikki (Steve) Roisum of La Crosse, Jodi (Doug) Guenther of Rochester, and Luke Lambrecht of Minneapolis, grandchildren; Jeff and Mike Gobin, Kelly and Matt Soderman, Renee Jones, Eric Majerus, Michelle Thielen, Megan Graf, Sarah Hough, Jason and Ben Margotta, and Evan Majerus, step-grandchildren; Abby, Jenna, Megan Schauer, and Logan Roisum, and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Maureen.

Bernie was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, the Elks Club, IBM Quarter-Century Club, and had served as a past president of the IBM Photography Club. He was also involved in softball and billiard pool leagues and loved spending his time fishing and watching Minnesota sports. He was a wonderful, loving father who enjoyed spending time playing with his children and grandchildren.
