Bette Schoenfelder was born on a farm near Simpson, MN on March 26, 1928 to William and Mary (Fogarty) Schoenfelder.
At the age of two she moved with her family to a farm near Rochester. Bette attended Rural School for eight years and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1946. She then went on to work at Mayo Clinic in the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department.
Bette married Wesley L. Baker on October 21, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester. Together they made their home near Simpson. Bette left Mayo in 1948 to stay home and raise their family. She returned to work at Rochester Methodist Hospital in 1968 for 23 years until her retirement. Following retirement, she worked part time at the Stewartville Schools for 15 years.
Bette and Wesley moved from the farm to Stewartville in November 2003 where they remained until his passing on June 23, 2007. Together they enjoyed dancing and traveling. Bette also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, working with her flowers, and watching the birds. She was a lifelong member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Simpson and an honorary member of the CCW.
Bette is survived by five daughters, Jo Ann (Phil) Olson of New York Mills, MN, Kathy Brommer of San Diego, CA, Rose Mary (Mike) Dobson of Perham, MN, Jean Koch of Rochester, MN, Patricia (Victor) King of Marshall, TX; three sons, William (Michelle) Baker of Millville, MN, Charles Baker and Russell Baker, both of Rochester, MN; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian Halloran of Chatfield, MN and Patricia Leonard of Tucson, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson; and six brothers.
A private family Funeral Mass was held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Stewartville, MN. Bette is buried in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Simpson, MN. Pallbearers were her great grandchildren, Jason and Arianna Smidt, Jacob and Marcus Olson, Jaxon, Aiden and Charlie Jean Vetsch, Alexandra Brogan, and Mya Lettner.
