Victor Schulze, 92, of Rochester, formerly Spring Valley area, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Whitewater Health Systems in St. Charles.
Vic was born February 26, 1928 in Mason, Texas to Hulda and Hugo Schulze. After high school, he enrolled at Texas A & M while also serving as a military cadet. After earning his B.A. degree, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army, stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. While at Fort Lewis, he met and married Elizabeth Osipchak, who was serving as a second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. They were married 68 years.
After they completed their service tours, they moved to Kerrville, TX where Vic taught vocational agriculture to 7th, 8th and 9th graders. Lee worked as a nurse at a veteran’s hospital.
Two years later, they moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri, where Vic taught school while also operating a dairy farm. While there, Lee served as a school nurse.
In 1956, the couple moved to Rochester where Vic began working at Libby’s as a field representative contracting with farmers to grow the crops canned by Libby’s. Later in his career, he managed the scheduling and buying process for the canning plant. During this time, Lee served as a nurse with the Mayo Clinic.
After retiring, they bought a small hobby farm near Spring Valley, MN. They lived there for 20 years before moving to Stewartville. After Lee’s death, Vic moved to St. Charles and then to his daughter’s home in Rollingstone.
Vic is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Will) Bly of Rollingstone, MN and Lynn (Mark) Schwartz of St. Louis Park, MN; a sister, Marie Spoonhour, of Fremont, Nebraska; grandchildren, Alison (Brian Weeks) Schwartz and Amy Schwartz, both of Washington, DC, Zach (Jeanie) Otten of Rochester, Jason Otten of St. Louis, MO, Derrick (Trish) Bly of Rochester, and Carrie (Bruce) Bach of Ely, MN; and seven great-grandchildren.
Vic is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers.
A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
